Rooftop farms in Gaza provide lifeline to the community

Meeting even basic needs in Gaza can be a challenge for the nearly 2 million people that live in the territory's 141 square miles. Under the Israeli blockade, which prevents vital supplies from reaching Gaza and inhibits international trade, the Palestinians of Gaza rely on resilience and innovation to survive with the resources they have. Squeezed out of arable land, many Palestinians are farming upwards, on the rooftops of the dense urban Mediterranean territory.
