Chile halts $2.5 billion mining project to protect endangered Humboldt Penguins

Good news for environmentalists and the animals they seek to protect. The Chilean government recently halted a $2.5 billion mining project which would have destroyed habitats of the very rare Humboldt penguins. The Dominga Project was set to begin mining copper and iron in the Coquimbo region of central Chile and would have produced 12 million tons of iron ore and 150,000 tons of copper each year.
