The 2,500-year-old bracket that protects China's Forbidden City against earthquakes

Chinese builders have had to consider earthquakes in their designs, and as far back as around 500 BC they came up with a solution to earthquake-proof structures: interlocking flower-shaped brackets called dougong. The joints have helped the Forbidden City to remain standing through 200 earthquakes in 600 years.
