Congo could open its national parks to oil drilling

Two national parks in the Democratic Republic of Congo could soon face pollution threats after oil drilling is given the green light. The national government announced on Friday, June 29, 2018, they would permit oil wells in parts of the Salonga and Virunga National Parks.   Salonga National Park contains over 13,000 square miles of rainforest in the Congo Basin, making it the second largest in the world.
