Even NASA isn't quite sure how to explain these holes in the Arctic Sea's ice

Do you know what the holes in the sea ice pictured above are? If so, let NASA know. They posted the image snapped over the Beaufort Sea on their Earth Matters blog as their April 2018 Puzzler — but even they aren't quite sure about the answer, although they ventured a few ideas.
