California becomes first state to require pet stores to sell rescue animals

In a move which is being applauded by animal rights activists, California is officially the first state to ban puppy mills. The revised measure AB485 requires pet stores to sell dogs, cats, and rabbits from animal shelters, rescue groups or adoption centers. The goal to ensure better treatment of animals and to secure homes for some of the 1.5 million animals which are euthanized across the United States each year.
