Photonic or light-based computers could run around 20 times quicker than our electronic laptops of today, but we've struggled to make them because data in photons is too fast for our microchips to read. But a recent breakthrough from researchers at Australian universities gets us closer to such super fast computers. They were able to store light waves as sound waves in a microchip. Related:
