The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has revealed its prototype of a solar powered "smart window" that is able to lower building temperatures by changing the window's appearance from clear to tinted. Not only does this decrease the amount of sunlight entering a building, thus lowering its heat intake, but this shift also turns the windows into photovoltaic panels.
