Plastic-eating mushrooms are the new superheroes in combating the growing waste crisis

A new study from the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew in London claims that fungi are capable of expediting the break-down of plastic waste. The aspergillus tubingensis fungus from Pakistan was featured in the State of the World's Fungi 2018 report, which also documented fungal growths found optimal in the production of sustainable building materials and others capable of removing pollutants from soil and wastewater.
