Future-proof beach residence in Washington State is raised to withstand mudslides

In order to future-proof their beach side property that has been in the family for three generations, the owners decided to build a modern home that would be easy to maintain. The house, designed by Designs Northwest Architects, sits at the bottom of a steep slope, and replaces a small cabin. The Saratoga Hill House is located on a remote beach on Camano Island, Washington. The site is difficult to reach and doesn't have road access, which makes it hard to bring heavy equipment and building materials....
