140-year-old Buenos Aires Zoo is shutting down and sending its animals to sanctuaries

In Argentina, a debate has raged on for years over the future of an aging zoo in the nation’s capital of Buenos Aires. The 140-year-old Buenos Aires Zoo has been at the center of the controversy, with a strong movement of animal activists working to convince zoo leadership to shut down, free the animals, and work toward becoming an ecological reserve. After years of effort, Mayor Horacio RodrĂ­guez Larreta has announced just that. The zoo will close, and 2,500 animals will be relocated to nature...
