China is getting in on the solar road-building action. Qilu Transportation Development Group developed a one-kilometer, or around 0.6-mile, stretch of solar road near Jinan, the capital city of China's Shandong Province. Quartz said three layers comprise the expressway: the solar panels rest in the middle with insulation below and transparent concrete on top.
