'The Blob' returns: marine heatwave settles over Pacific

The Blob is back … and no, it’s not a new Hollywood movie. Data scientists report this Blob – the last was in 2015 – refers to a marine heatwave or unusually warm waters. As for 2019’s blob, it’s the second largest to occur in the Pacific in the last 40 years. It encompasses 4 million square miles from Alaska to Canada and to Hawaii.
