It's not every day you glimpse a turtle with a mohawk, even if that mohawk is made up of algae and not actually hair. The Mary River turtle is eye-catching for that stylish feature — but it can also breathe through organs in its cloaca, according to an article from the Zoological Society of London's EDGE of Existence Program herpetologist Rikki Gumbs, also a lead author on a PLOS One study supporting the turtle's placement on their list of vulnerable reptiles.
