We may be alone in the universe after all, in light of new research from Cardiff University researchers. They didn't find much evidence of an element Cardiff said is essential to life on our planet — phosphorous — near the Crab Nebula. A lack of phosphorous would make it incredibly hard for extraterrestrial life to exist in other areas of the universe. Related:
