Scientists identify new kind of ice that requires extremely hot temperatures to form

Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Lab have discovered a new form of ice known as "superionic" ice that is thought to exist within the core of ice gas giant planets. Published in the journal Nature, this study documents the first observed instance of the superionic ice, which was first predicted thirty years ago.
