Hong Kong faces 'growing mountain of waste' in wake of China's trash ban

China's ban on imports of 24 kinds of trash that went into effect January 1 is already taking its toll on Hong Kong. Reuters described the area as struggling with a "growing mountain of waste" - and little of that garbage is recycled. Doug Woodring, founder of the Hong Kong-based Ocean Recovery Alliance, told Reuters, "Hong Kong is a rich city with third-world quality recycling.
