Because of climate change caused by humans, scientists from Australia's University of Queensland and the Queensland government suspect the Bramble Cay melomys, a small rodent likely only found on the island of Bramble Cay, is extinct. The rodents were last spotted in 2009, and a thorough search in 2014 yielded not a single one.
