140-year-old Buenos Aires Zoo is shutting down and sending its animals to sanctuaries

In Argentina, a debate has raged on for years over the future of an aging zoo in the nation’s capital of Buenos Aires. The 140-year-old Buenos Aires Zoo has been at the center of the controversy, with a strong movement of animal activists working to convince zoo leadership to shut down, free the animals, and work toward becoming an ecological reserve. After years of effort, Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta has announced just that. The zoo will close, and 2,500 animals will be relocated to nature...
