Dubai police unveil Star Wars-esque electric hoverbikes
Law enforcement in Dubai could zip through the city on electric hoverbikes in the future. At the GITEX technology week, the Dubai Police announced a police hoverbike, the Hoversurf Scorpion 3 manufactured by Russian company Hoversurf, that can speed around at 43 miles per hour, 16 feet up in the air. The Dubai police force are considering deploying the hoverbikes to respond to emergencies. Related:

Oil rig explodes in the middle of Lake Pontchartrain, injuring several near New Orleans
An oil rig on Lake Pontchartrain exploded on Sunday night in Kenner, Louisiana, home of the Louis Armstrong International Airport and only a few miles from New Orleans. Authorities began receiving calls about the explosion around 7:18 PM on Sunday; although no official explanation has been offered, authorities on scene believed that the explosion was caused by flammable cleaning chemicals on the oil rig's surface. Huge battery in the UK holds the energy equivalent of 500K smartphone batteries
A large new battery storage project could help the United Kingdom's national grid handle power from more renewable sources. The 10 megawatt battery, on the grounds of a biomass plant at Blackburn Meadows, is contained inside four 40 foot shipping containers. It can hold the same amount of energy as around 500,000 smartphone batteries.
